Isaac & Rebecca
Common Ground

Who do you trust? Do you trust your parents? Teachers? People you go to church with? Your friends>
Remember how Isaac trusted his father Abraham on the mountain? He's about to trust him again...this time he is going to trust him with not only his life - but his future.

Read the Word
Genesis 24

Abraham was very old, and the Lord had blessed him. When it was time for his son Isaac to have a wife and a family of his own, Abraham gave one of his servants the job of visiting Abraham’s homeland to find a bride for Isaac. Abraham wanted Isaac to have a wife chosen from his own people.

The servant asked Abraham, “What if the woman I find is unwilling to come back here with me? Should I have Isaac go back to the land you came from?”

“No,” Abraham answered “The Lord, the God of heaven who made a covenant with me and promised to give this land to my offspring, He will send His angel ahead of you You will find a wife for my son in that land If she is unwilling, then her refusal is not your fault”

Upon hearing Abraham’s words, the servant set out on his trip with camels and all kinds of his master’s goods and riches in hand. When evening came, the servant stopped at a well just outside of town.
The servant prayed, “Lord, God of my master Abraham, make this happen today and show kindness to my master Abraham. When I ask for a drink, may the one who allows me to drink and waters my camels be the one you have selected for him.”

Before the servant had even finished his prayer, a beautiful young woman named Rebekah approached the well with a jug on her shoulder. The servant asked her for a drink, and Rebekah lowered her jug and offered him a drink. When he was finished, Rebekah added, “I’ll also draw water for your camels until they have had enough to drink”
The servant asked who she was, and he learned she belonged to Abraham’s extended family. The servant bowed down and worshiped the Lord He gave Rebekah the gifts that Abraham had given him

Rebekah’s brother Laban spoke with Abraham’s servant The servant explained that he had been sent by Abraham on this special trip, and he told Laban how the Lord had answered the servant’s prayer and indicated that Rebekah was to be Isaac’s wife Laban replied, “This is from the Lord We have no choice in the matter”
Rebekah agreed to marry Isaac. He took Rebekah as his wife, and he loved her very much.

Like Jesus

Abraham didn’t want his son Isaac to marry a nearby Canaanite woman. They didn’t love God, and they didn’t worship Him. This is why Abraham sent his most trusted servant on a mission to return to Abraham’s original home to find Isaac a bride among Abraham’s own people. And Issac had to trust his father's decision once more.  He did and God blessed them.  Because God always blessed those who trust and obey.
